When I gave my life to Christ in 1990, I soon realized how my life would have been different if this life changing event had happened before the age of 30. As a young Christian I spent the first 12 years of my new life in Christ teaching Sunday school to kids from kindergarten to 6th grade. It was during my first mission trip to the San Carlos Apache Indian reservation that I realized the need to reach marginalized, economically challenged and, at-risk-children. It was this calling that drove me to reach out to children on the streets of Santa Ana and the Orange County Juvenile Hall. I started working with kids on the street after completing my M.A. in Intercultural Studies at Hope International University in 2012. I am currently and have been a Bible study volunteer with Pacific Youth Correctional Ministry for eight years and have volunteered with Lives Worth Saving Gang Intervention in the past. I founded Christ Before You Urban Ministry so that I could use the benefits of a nonprofit corporation to pursue my heart’s desire to make an impact for Christ in the inner city.
I am a faith-based missionary serving with Pacific Youth Correctional Ministries ministering to incarcerated youth in the Orange County Juvenile Justice Complex (OCJJC). I was called into the ministry by God in 1995 as a volunteer and then as full-time ministry staff in 1999. As a Chaplain, I lead church services, teach Bible studies, provide pastoral care through discipleship and counseling, coordinate special outreach events, and provide continuity of care following a youth’s release into the community or transfer to facility outside of the OCJJC. I came alongside Rob for CBY’s Friday night Teen Ministry and also assist with field trips. Prior to entering the ministry, I worked for McDonnell-Douglas & Boeing from 1983 to 1999 as a Business Systems & Process Specialist. I hold an M.B.A. from California State University, Long Beach.
I have shared my life with the families of inner city Santa Ana in different ways since 1988. From bringing food and clothing to the needy and sharing the gospel of love in Jesus Christ to be part of distributing hundreds of pounds of food through Orange County Christian Fellowship Church and Hands of Love. I was the coordinator of Children Ministry at Living Waters Church Spanish Ministry in Fountain Valley for 10 years. I participated with Lives Worth Saving gang intervention ministry in Santa Ana for 5 years. I was also the CHOICES Coordinator at Evergreen Community Center, an inner city outreach for 2 years. I am retired from the Santa Ana Unified School District with 30 years of experience. At present I am an after school Spanish teacher for two schools in Newport Beach. I hold a B.A. in Biochemistry from Universidad Michoacana.
